Mt. Manaslu Expedition

56 Days

Located on the edge of the remote Kali Gandaki valley, Manaslu stands as the eighth-highest peak in the world, 40 miles east of Annapurna in the central-western Himalayas of Nepal. As a captivating alternative to Cho Oyu, Manaslu offers climbers a more dynamic and challenging ascent among the towering 8,000-meter peaks. With its vast ridges and accessible routes from all directions, it presents a summit that dominates the surrounding landscape. The south face of Manaslu, one of its six challenging routes, holds a significant place in climbing history.

In 1953, a Japanese team’s initial attempt from the Budhi Gandaki Valley set the stage for the first successful summit in 1956. The Japanese have since developed a strong connection to the mountain, taking pride in their achievements on Manaslu. Some climbers even consider it a superior training ground for Everest, offering a more varied experience than Cho Oyu. The climb involves a mix of straightforward sections and occasional technical challenges. Climbers typically establish four camps, with the journey progressing from Camp I to Camp II, navigating steep terrain and crevasses, then moving from Camp II to Camp III with slippery snow climbs, and finally facing potential avalanches from Camp III to Camp IV before reaching the summit.
