Detail Itinerary
Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu [1,300m/4,264 ft]
Upon your arrival at Kathmandu airport, our representative will meet you and transfer you to your hotel. After checking in, you can choose to relax, explore the city, or visit our office, depending on your preferences. In the evening, we will enjoy a Welcome Dinner at a traditional Nepalese restaurant, accompanied by a cultural program and a delicious meal.
Day 02: Kathmandu Valley Sightseeing & Trek Preparation
Today, we will embark on a guided tour of four UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Kathmandu. First, we visit Kathmandu Durbar Square, home to the palaces that once housed the medieval Kings of Kathmandu. Then, we explore Pashupatinath, a sacred Hindu temple symbolizing Lord Shiva, located near the Bagmati River, known for its funeral ceremonies. We continue to Boudhanath, one of the world’s largest stupas, which is a major pilgrimage site for Buddhists. Finally, we visit Swayambhu, also known as the Monkey Temple, due to the monkeys that roam the area. We will return to Kathmandu for the night.
Day 03: Fly from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj & Transfer to Hotel
We take a one-hour flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj, a town near the Nepal-India border and the gateway to Simikot in Humla. Nepalgunj is a culturally rich town influenced by both the hills and plains of Nepal. You may explore the Mini Zoo, the Muslim bazaar, or nearby villages. We will also prepare for the next day’s flight to Jhupal.
Day 04: Fly from Nepalgunj to Jhupal (Dolpo) [2,320m/7,610ft] and Trek to Dunai [2,850m/9,348ft]: 2-3 hrs walk
After breakfast, we take a 45-minute flight to Jhupal, enjoying spectacular views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountains. Upon arrival, we start our trek, crossing terraced fields and a narrow gorge to reach Dunai, the administrative headquarters of the Dolpo region. The trek lasts about 2-3 hours, and we will have time to explore Dunai in the evening.
Day 05: Trek to Tarakot [2,543m/8,341ft]: 5-6 hrs walk
Our journey begins along the south bank of the river, moving upstream through deep gorges, suspension bridges, and villages. We pass a stunning gorge, adorned with pine trees, before arriving at the vibrant terraced fields of Tarakot, an ancient fortress town that once oversaw toll collections for trading caravans.
Day 06: Trek to Laini [3,160 m/10,365 ft]: 6-7 hrs walk
We trek along the Tarap Chu River, crossing it twice, to reach Sandul Gompa, situated at the confluence of Barbung Khola and Tarup Chu River. We continue through farm terraces and villages before negotiating several ascents and descents to our overnight camp at Laini.
Day 07: Trek to Nawarpani [3,545m/11,627 ft]: 5 hrs walk
Our trek ascends through the Tarap River gorge on a trail carved into steep slopes. The valley becomes narrower, and the path occasionally requires us to leap from one side to another. We cross Chyugur Khola and continue through stone slab bridges, reaching our campsite at Nawarpani.
Day 08: Trek to Do Tarap [4,090m/13,415ft]: 7-8 hrs walk
We start our day with a gradual ascent to Kamattarka, the junction of the Tarap Chu and Lang Khola rivers. As we leave the narrow gorge, the landscape opens up with juniper bushes and wild roses. After a few more hours, we reach the village of Dho Tarap, home to both Bon Po and Chaiba Buddhists, as well as a small Tibetan population.
Day 09: Rest Day at Do Tarap for Acclimatization
We spend the day in Do Tarap to acclimatize to the altitude. Explore the local monasteries, interact with the residents, who are mostly Magars and Tibetans, and enjoy the serene surroundings. The Bon Gompa and Buddhist Gompa are nearby, offering a rich cultural experience.
Day 10: Trek to Numa La Base Camp [4440m/14,563 ft]: 6-7 hrs walk
We trek through the upper Tarap valley, a lush and picturesque landscape, before reaching the village of Tokyu. From there, we continue to ascend a rugged track for about three hours to reach the base camp beneath Numa-la.
Day 11: Cross Numa La [5,190m/17,023ft], and Camp at Pelung Tang [4465m/14,645 ft]: 6-7 hrs
The highlight of today is crossing the Numa La pass, where we enjoy panoramic views of the barren Dolpo mountains and Dhaulagiri. After reaching the summit, we descend to our campsite at Pelung Tang.
Day 12: Cross Baga La [5,070m/16,630ft] and Camp at Dajok Tang [4,080m/13,382ft]: 6 hrs
We start the day with a steep ascent to Baga La pass, where we are treated to stunning views of the surrounding landscapes. After enjoying the views, we begin our descent, trekking for nearly three hours to reach Dajok Tang.
Day 13: Trek to Ringmo Phoksundo Lake [3,600m/11,808ft]: 3-4 hrs walk
Our trek continues through a pine forest and alpine meadows, leading us to Ringmo, a village near the stunning Phoksundo Lake, where we will set up camp.
Day 14: Rest Day at Ringmo for a Hike to Phoksundo Lake
Today is dedicated to relaxation and exploration. We will visit the Tibetan Buddhist monastery and the village of Ringmo, and take a peaceful walk around the crystal-clear waters of Phoksundo Lake, surrounded by breathtaking scenery.
Day 15: Trek to Shyanta [2,520m/8,265 ft]: 5-6 hrs walk
We begin our descent towards Chepka, passing important medicinal minerals and villages. We continue on, ascending slightly before reaching our campsite at Shyanta.
Day 16: Trek to Jhupal
We continue our trek towards Jhupal, passing through scenic forests of birch trees. Once in Jhupal, you will have time to explore the town or relax, reflecting on your journey.
Day 17: Fly to Kathmandu via Nepalgunj
We fly back from Jhupal to Nepalgunj and then take another flight to Kathmandu. After arriving in Kathmandu, you can relax or explore the city, with the option to enjoy a celebratory dinner with your trekking team. Overnight in Kathmandu.
Day 18: Final Departure
Your journey concludes today. If you have extra time, you can do some last-minute shopping or sightseeing. Three hours before your flight, our representative will drop you off at the airport for your departure, bidding farewell and wishing you safe travels.
