Tiji Festival Trekking

20 Days

The Tiji Festival, held during the first or second week of May, is a three-day event in Mustang, Nepal, rooted in the Tiji myth. It recounts the epic battle between the deity Dorje Jono and his demon father, who sought to bring destruction to Mustang by causing water shortages, famine, and calamities. The festival represents hope, the renewal of spring, and the triumph of Buddha Dharma. It aligns with the transition from the dry season to the monsoon, which is crucial for Mustang’s agricultural cycle. Located on the Tibetan border, Upper Mustang preserves its unspoiled Tibetan culture, with monasteries perched on cliffs. The trek begins in Kagbeni, a medieval town surrounded by apple orchards, blending tradition with the stunning, arid landscape of the Tibetan plateau. Mustang remains one of the last strongholds of untouched Tibetan culture in the world.
