In the evening, a welcome dinner hosted by BG Travel and Trek will allow you to savor delicious Nepalese cuisine and experience the rich food culture of the country.
Day 02: Kathmandu: Sightseeing and Trek Preparation.
After breakfast, we will begin a guided tour to explore some of Kathmandu’s most significant historical and spiritual sites. Many of these landmarks are UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including the iconic Durbar Square, the revered Hindu temple of Pashupatinath, the famous ‘Monkey Temple’ (Swayambhunath), and Bouddhanath, home to one of the largest stupas in the world. Around noon, we will gather for a pre-trip briefing, where we will meet our trek leader and fellow team members. During this session, BG Travel will provide a detailed overview of the trek, answering any questions we may have about the journey ahead. The day will conclude with an overnight stay in Kathmandu.
Day 03: Kathmandu – Lukla – Phakding (2,652m/8,700ft): 3 – 4 hrs
After breakfast, we will head to the domestic terminal at Kathmandu airport for an early morning flight to Lukla (2,800m/9,186ft), the starting point of our trek. The 40-minute flight offers stunning views of lush green hills and snow-capped peaks, leading to a dramatic landing at the Tenzing-Hillary Airport in Lukla, one of the most scenic air routes in the world. Upon arrival, we’ll meet our trekking crew, and after completing the necessary preparations, we’ll begin our trek through the lively village of Lukla, eventually reaching Phakding. To help with acclimatization, today’s hike will be short, though there’s an optional side trip to a nearby monastery for those interested. We’ll spend the night in Phakding.
Day 04: Phakding – Namche Bazaar (3440 m/11,280 ft): 5 – 6 hrs
After breakfast, we begin our trek through a scenic pine forest, following the trail alongside the Dudh Koshi River and crossing several suspension bridges, including the iconic Hillary Suspension Bridge. Along the way, we’ll be treated to stunning views of the shimmering Mt. Thamserku (6618m). As we pass through the villages of Benkar, Chumoa, and Monjo, we’ll arrive at the Sagarmatha National Park entrance and check post. After continuing through the last village of Jorsale, we make our way toward Namche Bazaar.
The trail gradually ascends through forests and over bridges, leading us to the confluence of the Dudh Koshi and Bhote Koshi rivers. After a final steep two-hour climb, we’ll get our first glimpse of Mt. Everest, rising majestically above the Lhotse-Nuptse ridge. We’ll pause at Chautara to savor the view before continuing for another 1.5 hours to reach Namche Bazaar, the gateway to Mt. Everest and the region’s primary trading hub. We’ll spend the night in Namche Bazaar.
Day 05: Acclimatization Day – Namche Bazaar: 3,440m/11,284ft.
Today is our designated acclimatization day, essential for adjusting to the altitude. Health experts recommend staying active, so we have several options to keep moving rather than resting completely. You can take a day hike to Thame, visit Khunde, or simply relax and explore Namche Bazaar itself. As the main hub of the Everest (Khumbu) region, Namche Bazaar offers a variety of amenities, including government offices, ATMs, internet cafes, shops, restaurants, a bakery, and a vibrant market every Friday evening and Saturday.
To aid in acclimatization, a short trek of a few hundred vertical feet is recommended. Our guides from BG Travel will take us to the Tourist Visitor Center near the Sagarmatha National Park headquarters, where you can learn about the history of Everest’s first ascenders, the Sherpa culture, and the region’s flora and fauna. Another exciting option is a side trip to Khumjung, where we’ll climb to the famous airstrip at Syangboche. Above the airstrip is the Everest View Hotel, a Japanese initiative offering breathtaking views of some of the world’s tallest peaks. Khumjung Valley, nestled among towering snow-capped mountains like Kongde and Thamserku, is home to a historic monastery that houses a reputed yeti scalp. The visit also includes a stop at the Hillary School, founded by Sir Edmund Hillary. After exploring Khumjung and enjoying a delicious lunch, we’ll trek back down to Namche Bazaar for an overnight stay.
Day 06 : Trek from Namche Bazaar to Dole (4, 110m) 5-6 hrs trek
We begin the day with a steep ascent out of Namche Bazaar, heading toward Kyangjuma Village, where we’re treated to spectacular views of Thamserku, Kantenga, and Ama Dablam. The most challenging part of today’s trek is the climb to Mong La, a picturesque spot perched on the edge of Mt. Khumbila. In the heart of Mong La stands an ancient Chorten, a significant historical landmark. At the top of Mong La, we take a well-deserved break to enjoy the breathtaking panoramic views of snow-covered peaks and valleys while having lunch and allowing our bodies to recover.
Throughout the day, we are surrounded by diverse plant and animal life, including vibrant wildflowers and rhododendrons. It’s not uncommon to spot wildlife such as pheasants, mountain goats, and the elusive musk deer. The trail continues through lush forests, past waterfalls, and across bridges before we reach Dole, a small settlement with a few teahouses. After a rewarding day of trekking, we settle in for the night in Dole.
Day 07 : Trek from Dole to Machhermo (4410m) we reckon this takes about 5 hrs.
From Dole, the ascent is steady along the side of the valley, with small and thorny bushes gradually giving way to scrub juniper as the altitude increases. The trail passes numerous summer settlements, and as you ascend, you are treated to excellent views of Cho Oyu. Looking back down the valley, you can admire the peaks of Kantega and Thamserku. The scenery is truly breathtaking. You’ll spend the night at your lodge, surrounded by the beauty of the Himalayan landscape.
Day 08 : Trek from Machhermo to Gokyo (4, 800m) 4-5 hours trek
Today’s journey takes you to the enchanting lakes of Gokyo. Following a scenic trail, you first reach Pangkha and then descend slightly, tracing one of the melting-water rivers that flow down from the west side of the Ngozumpa Glacier. Climbing a steep rocky path alongside the glacier, you pass the first of the holy lakes. Continuing, you arrive at the second lake and cross the path leading across the glacier to Cho La (5420m), which is part of your route to Lobuche and Everest later in the trek. The third lake, known as Dudh Pokhari, is where the settlement of Gokyo is situated on its eastern shore.
As you walk alongside the lake, the magnificent scenery unfolds with the summits of Cho Oyu and Gyachung Kang reflected in its emerald green waters. The captivating view is sure to leave a lasting impression. You’ll spend the night at a lodge in Gokyo.
Day 09 : Second rest at Gokyo for acclimatization (4,800m) Explore the Gokyo valley.
Today is a rest day in Gokyo, allowing you to relax and explore the surrounding Gokyo Valley. Gokyo itself is a vibrant trade center, where Sherpa people operate lodges, providing exceptional services to trekkers passing through the area. Situated next to the Ngozumpa Glacier, the largest glacier in Nepal, Gokyo offers a peaceful and picturesque setting.
For those interested in further exploration, you have the option to take a side trip to the Fifth Lake, passing the Fourth Lake along the way, to experience even more of the valley’s natural beauty. Whether you choose to relax and enjoy the serene atmosphere or venture out on a scenic hike, the day is yours to enjoy. The day will conclude with an overnight stay at your lodge in Gokyo, surrounded by the breathtaking landscape.
Day 10 :Hike to Gokyo RI (5,330m) & trek to Thaknak (4,750m.) 6-7 hours
The trek continues from Gokyo village, taking about four and a half hours to reach your next destination. Gokyo Ri, which rises above the village on the northern edge of the lake, is the day’s highlight. Departing early in the morning, you’ll follow a steep trail up the hillside. As you climb, the majestic peaks of Everest, Lhotse, and Makalu slowly come into view, building excitement for the stunning panorama awaiting you.
The view from the summit of Gokyo Ri is widely regarded as one of the best in the Everest region—some even claim it surpasses the view from Kala Patthar. After soaking in the breathtaking vistas, you’ll descend and enjoy a well-deserved lunch.
In the afternoon, it’s a short walk to the village of Thaknak, located at the edge of the Ngozumpa Glacier. After settling in, you’ll spend the night at a cozy lodge in Thaknak, resting in the tranquility of the high Himalayas.
Day 11 : Trek from Thaknak to Cho-la Pass (5, 367m.) – Lobuche (4,950m.) 8-9 hours trek.
Crossing Cho La Pass is a pivotal day on this trek, often considered the most challenging. It requires an early start, typically between 4 to 6 am, as it is a demanding day compared to the others. While the pass itself is not technically difficult, the steep ascent and glacier traverse on the eastern side of the pass require extra caution. The trail can be slippery, especially with icy rocks, so trekkers need to be mindful of their footing.
The journey begins with an ascent through a ravine, and as you climb steadily from Phedi, the views become more and more spectacular. You’ll trek alongside a frozen lake before reaching the summit of the pass, where prayer flags flutter in the wind. From here, the panoramic views are breathtaking, with notable peaks such as Kyajo Ri, Tengkangpoche, Numbur, and Kangchung visible along the trail. To the south, Ama Dablam stands majestically over the range, while Cholatse rises sharply to the west, and Lobuche East and Baruntse loom to the right.
As you navigate through crevasses, you’ll eventually descend into Dzongla, a picturesque spot offering a perfect view of Mt. Cholatse, Ama Dablam, Lobuche Peak, and the village of Pheriche far below. Depending on how you’re feeling and your pace, you can either stay overnight in Dzongla or continue on to Lobuche for the night.
Day 12 : Trek to Gorakshep – Everest Base Camp (5,364m.) – Gorakshep (5,140m.) 6-7 hours trek.
As you trek toward Everest Base Camp, the trail winds through the ice pinnacles and crevasses of the Khumbu Glacier. During the spring season, you may encounter expedition teams at the base camp, although the autumn season tends to see fewer climbers. After a brief lunch and rest in Gorakshep, you’ll set off for Everest Base Camp, passing what was once the vast Gorakshep Lake. Continuing on, you’ll come across memorials to Indian army mountaineers, a poignant reminder of the challenges faced by those who have climbed Everest.
Upon reaching Everest Base Camp, you’ll be struck by the bravery of the mountaineers who have traversed the perilous route through the Khumbu Icefall. The vibrant colors of the climbers’ tents stand out against the stark gray surroundings, particularly during the spring season. From base camp, you’ll have views of Nuptse, Khumbetse, and Pumori, though Everest itself is not visible from this vantage point. Having reached the pinnacle of your trek, you’ll have the option to take a higher route on the return journey, offering a stunning view of the Khumbu Icefall and numerous other majestic peaks. The day ends with a restful overnight stay in Gorakshep.
Day 13 : Ascend to Kalapathar (5,545 m.) and return to Pheriche (4,280 m) 7-8 hours trek.
At the break of dawn, begin your ascent to Kalapathar (5545m) to witness one of the most magnificent sunrises you’ll ever experience. The views are nothing short of breathtaking, so be sure to capture some stunning photos. From the summit of Kalapathar, you’ll be treated to a panoramic vista of Mt. Everest and many other towering peaks, including Mt. Pumori, Mt. Lingtren, Mt. Khumbetse, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Ama Dablam, Mt. Thamserku, and more.
In this region, the sturdy Yaks are often seen as the unsung heroes of the trek, serving as the primary porters. As you descend, you’ll pass through the town of Pheriche, known for its windy conditions, with the imposing vertical faces of Cholatse and Tawache standing tall in the background. Pheriche is also home to the Himalayan Rescue Association Aid Post, where volunteer doctors from around the world offer medical care to trekkers and local villagers alike. After a day filled with awe-inspiring views, you’ll rest for the night at your lodge in Pheriche.
Day 14 : Trek from Pheriche to Tengboche (3, 440m) 5-6 hours trek
To reach Tengboche, you’ll pass through Pangboche village, which is notable for being the highest permanent settlement in the Khumbu region, inhabited year-round. As you arrive in Tengboche, you’ll be greeted by the famous Tengboche Monastery, the largest and most renowned monastery in the region. It’s a significant spiritual site, offering a glimpse into the area’s rich cultural and religious heritage.
In addition to the monastery, there’s a trekker’s visiting center where local Sherpas display a variety of goods for sale, giving you a chance to purchase unique souvenirs. The center also features a slide presentation that highlights the Sherpa people, their culture, the Buddhist religion, and local environmental development programs.
Tengboche is a peaceful and scenic place, ideal for soaking in the atmosphere and reflecting on the journey. After a day of exploration, you’ll spend the night at your lodge in the village, surrounded by the beauty of the Himalayas.
Day 15 : Trek from Tengboche to Namche Bazaar (3,400m.) 5-6 hours trek
From Tengboche, the trail descends sharply toward Phunki Tenga (3250m), crossing the Dudh Koshi River along the way. As you make your way down, you’ll be treated to one last breathtaking view of the iconic peaks of the Khumbu region, including Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, and Kusum Kangaru.
The trail then takes you through several vibrant villages, where teashops eagerly welcome trekkers, offering a chance to rest and refresh. From here, the path ascends steeply to Sanasa, a bustling area where local Sherpas sell Tibetan goods and handicrafts. After a day of scenic beauty and cultural immersion, you’ll spend the night at a lodge along the route, reflecting on the stunning landscapes and experiences of the trek.
Day 16 : Trek from Namche bazaar to Lukla (2, 600m) 5-6 hours trek

While retracing our steps along familiar paths, the landscape feels fresh, with new perspectives of open plains, forests, and distant peaks. The trek is enjoyable, with one last uphill climb before reaching Lukla.
Upon arrival, we celebrate with our trekking crew, enjoying a hearty dinner followed by lively Sherpa dances around an open fire.
